Habit to Addiction Further to my Blog on Habits, I visited my habits and one of them stood up predominantly, my ‘SMOKING’.  My father used to be a chain smoker (he is 86 now and had left smoking probably in his 50s) and my first puff emanated from his cigarette butt. I must be 8-9 years old when my friend and me decided to taste the thunder!! Well the initial puff was horrible, coughing and spitting! Then the smoke got used to us!! This probably carried on for a year or two and stopped.  The next episode started when in college as a Macho syndrome; this is the place it developed into a habit. It started as a sequence based on timing and slowly developed into habit where the cue was the time of the day.  During my Army training days, though there was a very strict policy of no smoking, I sneaked few cigs once in a while. Those days in Army almost 90% of the officers smoked and it just carried on.  The numbers started increasing, there was no c...

All in perspective

This space came up as a perfect opportunity to review my role as psychologist till then and how I would like to take it forward before and after CONNECT.  Before Connect Any field dealing with healing revolves around symptoms. What is it that needs healing? In medical science one looks for physical ailments ranging from headache, stomach upset to cardiac arrest. Psychologist would look for behavior, emotion or thought process that troubles the clients. If we look further even a mechanic would ask what's wrong? since when the headlights aren't working. As a Psychologist I was trained to look into symptoms that is troublesome, one which bothers and doesn't allow my clients or me to function to my full capacity. My practice of healing comes into action only when there is trouble. When client doesn't feel good they seek me and my role is to look what is he/she not feeling good about and intervene. In Connect When I was asked to define Symptoms itself by Pr...

The Inner Child work

"I am not...... I cannot .... I shouldn't... I mustn't...  " .... The beliefs, values one picks up as a child makes a stronghold position in one's behaviour as an adult. The parental contaminations leading to child confusions inturn leads to lot of emotional barriers in adult life causing stuckness. The energies doesn't move forward instead they keep on rolling in circles within.. the homeostasis is affected. Until the contaminations are dealt with, through inner child works, the energies cannot move forward. Sivapriya

Identification

The balance of inside and outside is something which we talk about quite often yet takes a lot to achieve until the techniques are known. Identifying the symptom in a counseling/therapy process is a great work indeed as it leads the doorway for the change process to start. The contamination there is the manifested energy. The sensing of the contaminated energy is what needs to be sharpened ( not the thinking process). Sivapriya Supporting the client in facilitating about identifying and  reaching the goal they desire with an intention is what's about counseling/therapy..

HABIT During the Connect Class on – there was a discussion whether a repeated observable action construes a psychological pain manifestation. Can’t it just be a habit an individual has picked up down his life span? Prasad had asked me to conduct a research on habit and this blog relates to that subject: As per definition, “ Habit is a behaviour pattern developed by frequent repetition of the act over and over to the point that the brain does it automatically”.  A Southern California research concludes that 40-45% of our daily behaviours are habits, which is close to 50% of our daily behaviour. Example may be getting up early, brushing, driving a car or just looking at the mobile phone! Habits are those automated repeated behaviours happening always in the same context or environment, which runs in your subconscious mind (not consciously aware, as you have done it again and again). Habit is normally triggered by some form of Cue, which can be a situation, p...

Methodology of the belongings

In continuation of the belonging blog , this write up address the methodology of the process. There was a balance and homeostatic stability.  When the  object is snatched away, the balance gets disturbed.  Such imbalance is evident with many symptoms like sorrow, crying, emotional pain, a want to get back the lost item. Such imbalance remains in the system for a long time. In order to resolve this issue, a process a applied.  The people involved are asked to give a positive answer and approach.  A symbolic toy is used to denote the snatched away object.  Once the object is back, harmony comes back.  The homeostatic balance is restored, which brings in happiness and peace. To reinforce the message, point was driven clearly to take good care of the belongings.
