Gold coins I collected in connect classes
Posted by Jeya Balaji
I flipped through the notes I have taken during past one year connect classes. There are many topics covered. Thanks to Prasad for teaching tough and in depth topics in a simple manner.
I checked the sections which I am comfortable. This number is less compared to the whole syllabus, but they are the topics sink in close to me.
- Warm welcome
- client should be comfortable to talk to. There need to be a trust formed at the beginning, which need to carry forward till end. A friendly smile ease the situation and breaks ice between strangers.
- Contracting
- Take time to understand the client's need. Rephrase the needs and confirm that is what is the topic of discussion is about. Such understanding becomes a navigating compass for the entire discussion.
- Energy concentration
- What is the area of interest of the client? Which topic makes the person very interesting or which one is really bothering? Talking around this topic would be fruitful as the client would love to discuss the same. Identifying this energy area is useful thing to do.
- Stroking
- In one of the connect class, I gave a talk on Johari's window. As Prasad was giving positive strokes, I was able to speak more on the topic. I got excited and brought out best of myself. This first hand experience made me understand the power of stroking. If applied to a client, he/she is sure to open up.
- Goal setting
- Empty mind is devil's workshop. A mind without goal keeps oscillating and tries moving in all direction. Once the mind sets a goal, it is easy for focusing in set direction and reach desire goal. Another aspect is, when there is goal, there is no time for unnecessary quarrels and wasteful energy.
I am armoring myself with these vital concepts to conduct counseling sessions. Applying these aspects alone seem fruitful. As I gain more knowledge and experience in counseling, I hope I will understand other techniques and apply them.
